In yet another scintillating fashion, the African music classics will be renting the air in Canada between 9th - 10th August, 2024. It is for the maiden edition of the Afrobeats Music Festival, which will be the first of its kind in the populous Canada.

The last 10 years have witnessed an unprecedented growth of African music as many promising artists, especially from Nigeria, the most populous country in the continent, have made successful in-roads into the entertainment sector of the world's second largest country by total landmass, thereby consistently showcasing Nigeria's clout as Afrobeats dynamo.

By parading more music stars from the African continent, come August 2024; the concert will further elevate and enrich the podium of the Nigerian Pan-African indigenous music industry. Before presenting the key packages and programmes that have been lined up to spice the maiden Afrobeats Music Festival, a brief appraisal of the uniqueness of the afrobeats music style is expedient.

According to Wikipedia, Afrobeat originated in West Africa, precisely Nigeria and Ghana, but has risen to become one of the most electric and exported sounds in contemporary music across the globe. As a music genre, it combines West Africa musical styles such as 'the Fuji music, high life, American jazz and later soul and funk influences, with a focus on chanted vocals, complex intersecting rhythms, and percussion'. The term was coined in the 1960s by legendary Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and bandleader, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who successfully pioneered and popularised the style within Nigeria and beyond.
